First Incision [(Accidental) Video/Action]
[The journal begins broadcasting abruptly, the angle of the video skewed. In the tall grasses of the forest, there is a brunette woman stirring restlessly in her unconsciousness; a New Feather, judging by the white sundress she's wearing.]
[From what the camera can catch of her face, her expression is one of distress, her brow furrowed faintly. Then, a soft murmur:]
Stay... back. Away... from me...
[There are faint whimpers and murmurs after that, ones that sound like a person clearly afraid, before, suddenly, the woman's eyes snap open and a sharp gasp leaves her mouth.]
[As she sits up, she rests a hand upon her chest, catching her breath before she rises to her feet.]
...this isn't my study.
[She turns around hurriedly, expression shifting from irritation to anger as her eyes continue to scan the area.]
This is a very foul joke! If I find who did this, I'll have your hide!
[Her eyes lock onto the journal, and she bounds over to it. With a clearly irate scowl, she slams the book shut, though it does catch one last sentence before it cuts off:]
What in the name of the gods is this?
[Sometime after her initial outburst, Syre can be found walking into the village, the journal tucked beneath her left arm. She's looking around at everything with a mix of intrigue and irritation -- this most definitely isn't Ecliptia, but she can't help but wonder where she is...]
[If anyone wants to welcome the jade-eyed/jade-winged newcomer, feel free to -- but she might be a little wary at first...]

[Action] | Early morning because I do what I want C8
... Of course, such a figure might do a good job of attracting Syre's attention on its own, but Robert notices her (and her dark shade, which is a welcome sight in Luceti) relatively quickly. She is new - he can tell that immediately.]
... S-Salutations...?
[His voice is wary, but he doesn't want to leave anybody stranded in a strange place if he can help it.]
BECAUSE DOING WHAT YOU WANT IS FUN, DAMMIT
[Syre's going to squint at you for a moment -- everything's still a blur of color, since her glasses are gone -- before she raises her hand in greeting.]
Good morning.
[And now she heads over his way, noticing that he's... not all that taller or shorter than she is.]
[How pleasant.]
...if it is morning, anyway. Not entirely sure of whether this is still some... incredibly realistic dream sequence.
Indeed it is 83
Robert tries to give her a weak smile - it's not the most successful endeavour in the world, but maybe it's enough to establish a precedent? - as he tries to think of how best to word things.]
... I, er... s-see that you are... a r-recent indictee into the colony of L-Luceti...
... That is, er, the name of... wh-where you are located at p-present.
no subject
[So, have a mildly confident smile in return, Robert. Syre has things in mind for you later on.]
A colony, hm? Do you know who established this colony? What country on Selles do they hail from?
no subject
... A-Allow me to, er, p-preface this with a st-statement that... may be difficult to believe...
... [He always hates this part, but full disclosure is the best idea:]
... We are... n-not located on Selles, or... i-indeed, any planet you would be familiar with...
R-Rather, we are... in a place whose n-name is not known by us... The colony itself... o-only has "Luceti" as its name. Those who... k-keep us here are known as the Malnosso - cruel, inethical "scientists", a blight on the f-face of any respectable science - wh-who keep us, essentially, as... e-experimental fodder.
[Exhale. He's just going to let Syre digest that.]
no subject
[She files the rest of what Robert's said away for later musing. If she is indeed no longer on Selles, then it warrants further investigation.]
I do hope it's nothing... particularly gruesome. [She's not one to share her data, after all.]
no subject
... Well. It is, er, a m-matter of speaking, but... I have seen some... t-truly horrifyingly inethical "experimentation" performed... on s-some of the people here.
[He will never truly purge the mental image of Raphael with the hole in his plastron.]
... The e-experimentation is... highly variable, as well. Sometimes it is... p-purely physical, sometimes purely mental; sometimes a c-combination. Some seem almost for... the s-sake of amusement of theirs'. Others seem g-geared to explore... our limits, as organisms...
[And some are unfathomable.]
no subject
Such things... do not surprise me.
When a scientist is given near-limitless subjects... myriad tests can be performed.
[She knows from experience.]
no subject
... No... s-scrupulous scientist would... ever experiment in such h-horrific ways, I can assure you...
At least, I w-would not.
[Never. Gods, he hopes that remains true, at least.]
no subject
...what is the most recent experiment that these "Malnosso" have done?
no subject
... Er... the m-most recent experiment that was... p-performed by the Malnosso was, essentially, a... personality modification...
... A-Afflicted individuals thought they were, er, various... archetypes, or... p-personalities. They... behaved in accordance to such, as well. The village was... a-also modified to account for it, with... a currency system in p-place and creatures appearing out of n-nowhere.
It was... one of the more o-odd ones...
no subject
[Personality experiments. That's something she would have to try eventually.]
...I assume it was a... somewhat peaceful study?
no subject
However, I... much prefer my body to be a-altered, rather than my mind...
no subject
...at least there was no violence involved, for the most part.
no subject
[Robert nods nervously, a staccato sort of motion, and shifts away a little. Just a little.
He doesn't really know where this conversation is going, though he hopes he's helped Syre a little...]
no subject
[She smiles, faintly.]
Perhaps we'll talk again some other time?
no subject
... Before I d-do, would... you like to s-see how to operate the journals properly, or... d-do you think you are alright in that r-regard...?
no subject
[Syre presents it to Robert.]
A demonstration would be nice. I get the feeling these are not the sort of "journals" I am used to.
no subject
[Robert takes the little book carefully from Syre's hands and turns it, so that she can see the screen as well, before opening it.
As he speaks, he gestures to the corresponding sections.]
The... j-journals function as communication d-devices in Luceti. They are monitored by the M-Malnosso, and thus information that you do not wish to b-be disclosed to them should not be mentioned over them, but... messages can be f-filtered from other members of the compound...
... You may choose to input written t-text, record your own voice, or r-record a video using the small lens at the top of the j-journal. Responses are r-recorded, and can be played back at leisure, by a-anybody who has access to the channel...
no subject
This... technology... is unfamiliar to me, but you put their functions into simple terms.
I am appreciative of that.
[She reaches out, slowly, to take the journal back from Robert.]
If there is anything I need, I will be sure to notify you.
no subject
... I have... d-done it many times before... this c-colony receives new members every... two months, a-approximately. You may expect... to see them if you r-remain here that long...
[He gives a brief nod.] ... Please... f-feel free, though much of the v-village is likely to assist you if... n-necessary.
[action]
[ The new feather sundress gives it away. ]
[action]
[--what... WHAT is that thing next to him? It's nothing she's ever seen.]
[Syre stares a bit at Luminiar, eyes a-squint and eyebrow furrowed, before she realizes that the man has addressed her.]
[...how awkward. She's just been staring all this time...]
O-Oh. My apologies.
[She runs a hand through her hair, sighing.]
Yes, I've just arrived. ...though I'm not entirely too sure that I'm of sound mind.
[She glances back up at Helios, and smiles, albeit weakly.]
This... This place wouldn't happen to be close to Ecliptia, would it?
[action]
And you're of perfectly sound m-mind. Luceti is, is just a very strange place. A-And I don't believe you're on your own planet though. S-So I don't think it's Ecliptia.
[action]
...so, an entirely different world. How interesting.
[And frustrating.]
... "Luceti". That is the name of this world?
[Before she gets onto another topic, however, she points to Luminiar.]
What is... this?
[action]
Oh. You mean Luminair? He's a dragon.
[action]
A... dragon? [Well, this is certainly new to her.] ...tell me more about dragons. This is the first time I've seen one.
[action] Pretend this isn't super late /fails
[ At that though Helios will smile and Luminair will give a happy little chirp, his tail wagging slightly. ] Well. They're a rather proud, strong, intelligent species. D-Depending on the family or-or clan they can live for thousands of years, p-possibly millions. Most of them breath fire and there's all sorts of types. Water dragons, flying dragons, Western and Eastern dragons. Some have magical abilities that give them the form of humans. The list really goes.
[Action] Not late at all! 83b
[Syre looks thoughtful -- almost envious. She'll be silent a moment before responding.]
That's incredible. On Selles, we haven't even come close to finding a species that long lived...
[Action] :3 <3!
[ Helios' interest is piqued by this. He loves learning about this sort of thing and it clearly shows as he gives Syre his undivided attention. A small smile spreads across his features. ] You probably have magnificent creatures even I haven't heard of.
[Action] ... :3c Now it's my turn to be late~
[...and technically they have their own country and their own customs, but in Syre's eyes, they might as well be animals.]
They have two sets of large fins on their back, and they swim through water so gracefully... Almost like a bird soaring through the air!
