To all that I may have interacted with during this most recent of Shifts: let it be known that the name Ariadelle Estriet [--hatred creeps into her voice for that brief moment, dark and bitter--] is one that I prefer not to be addressed by.

I would not have my image sullied by taking on the name of a deserter.

[The feed stops shortly after that.]

[Much, much later that night, a series of quick notes show up. It seems Syre has mistaken her broadcast journal for the one she normally keeps research in.]

-- Energy expenditure in creation of all constructs 1.5 times normal. Care needed to avoid exhaustion.

-- Still unable to ~~give life to~~animate constructs for more than few seconds at a time. Related to power limits of enclosure(?).

-- Research required into alternate means of animating constructs. Must favor alchemic/magical practices; technological research too time-/resource-consuming.

-- Additional research required to grant construct minor magical/alchemic abilities; useful for construction of potential assistant(s).

Oh, don't say that. We've all accidentally broadcast our top secret plans once in a while! Ho ho ho! But now that I've seen them I might as well enquire - one mad scientist to another, of course.

...I'm not entirely sure if you were affected by this recent Shift, so I'll be brief:

I want to construct a sort of "living journal" in the event of massive memory loss happening again.

[Said, bitterly:] Oh, I was.

Interesting. What do you mean by "living journal"?

I suppose the simplest way of explaining would be this:

Imagine a... ah... computer. Now imagine the functions of a computer... in a living being. Being able to store information on it, and having it repeat the data to you in the event of something happening.

Sounds grisly! But not entirely unlike robotics. Are you creating it with, er, organic materials? [Can't help but wince a bit.]

If by "organic" you mean "earth and soil", that I suppose yes.

But there will be no flesh and bone in this construct.

[A visible sigh of relief. Kidnapping squirrels is one thing but painting the walls with their guts and turning them into a computer is another.]

Phew! But if that's so, then I really am intrigued. I didn't know dirt could be so useful!

With my alchemy, everything is useful.

It's all a matter of what needs to be done.

[A thought occurs to Eggman.]

You know, if you're having problems, perhaps you shouldn't be so quick to dismiss technological options. Some of my best work has been with combining technology with the "arcane".

Oh, believe me, I wasn't dismissing it. I simply said that it was too time-consuming.

You must take care to remember that my world has not yet reached the level of technology that your own has. Researching everything from my level to yours would take me months upon months of study.

Oh, I see. If only there was someone as brilliant as I to help you with your project.

... [A smile tugs at Syre's lips.]

Perhaps we can work out an arrangement, then.

Yes! Marvellous! I'm sure we can both learn a lot about each other's sciences in the process, too.

[Eggman flaps about a lot of papers in an attempt to pretend he actually has a diary that he's flicking through.]

There's nothing I can't cancel! The 24th it is! [And he scribbles that date onto a piece of scrap paper off-camera.]
